Designed around your remaining teeth

Partial denture: replacement teeth, base, metal framework and clasps
Example of a metal partial. The design varies with the teeth and gaps in your mouth.

A partial denture replaces some missing teeth while working around the teeth you still have. Replacement teeth sit on a base or framework, with retention designed to help hold the appliance in place. The position of the gaps, your bite and the health of your remaining teeth guide the design.

Cast metal, acrylic and flexible partials have different benefits and trade-offs. The choice affects how much material sits in your mouth, whether clasps may show, and what can be repaired or changed later. We explain the options that suit your mouth rather than choosing on appearance or price alone.

Bring any existing partial to your first consultation and tell us about comfort, speech or planned dental treatment. Peter can discuss a suitable design, costs and the visits involved. Your partial is made in our own laboratory, with fitting, cleaning guidance and review as you get used to it.

Compare the materials

The right option depends on your teeth, bite and maintenance needs.

Silver framework, clasps and pink saddles

Cast metal

Slim, rigid framework. Metal clasps may show.

Often considered for longer-term use. Ask how your remaining teeth will support it.

Pink acrylic base and wire clasps

Acrylic

Acrylic base. Often uses wire clasps.

May suit an interim plan. Discuss bulk, maintenance and future replacement costs.

Pink polymer base and retention

Flexible

Flexible polymer. Gum-coloured retention.

Suitability depends on your mouth. Repair, reline and tooth-addition options can be limited.

Common questions

How much will it cost?

The design, material and work needed affect the cost. Your free first consultation covers options, inclusions and likely maintenance costs.

Can I avoid visible metal?

Some designs use gum-coloured retention. They are not suitable for every mouth; appearance, support and maintenance need to be considered together.

Can another tooth be added later?

Sometimes. It depends on the material, design and condition of the denture. Tell us about planned dental treatment before choosing.

What if it feels bulky or affects speech?

A new partial can take time to get used to. Fitting and review appointments help address pressure areas, speech and comfort.

Do I still need a dentist?

Yes. A partial does not treat decay or gum disease. Your remaining teeth and gums need regular dental care, and some treatment may be needed before the partial is made.
